How To Survive Oktoberfest In Fredericksburg, Texas

How To Survive Oktoberfest In Fredericksburg, Texas

Every year, people travel from near and far to celebrate Oktoberfest in Fredericksburg, Texas. Main Street Fredericksburg floods with lively music, delicious food, and lots of friendly company. Entertainment changes every year, but it is always a fun time. Read about our favorite past events to gear up for this year’s Oktoberfest!

1. Learn How to Dance | Hauptstrasse Chicken Dance

The iconic jig known as the Chicken Dance dates back to the late 1950s. Werner Thomas, a Swiss-German accordion player, created this song and corresponding dance after realizing how similar Swiss skiers look to gliding water ducks. Many years later, the Chicken Dance made a debut in Tulsa, Oklahoma, during the 1981 Oktoberfest celebration. This year, you can pay homage to the Chicken Dance at Oktoberfest in Fredericksburg. Nearly 400 dancers convene in Fredericksburg’s Market Square to participate in the annual Hauptstrasse Chicken Dance. All participants hold hands and perform the Chicken Dance. If you’re one of the first 390 registered dancers, you can win a prize!

2. Do NOT Eat Before | Oktoberfest Food and Drink

Oktoberfest is widely known as the beer festival. Regardless of which Oktoberfest you attend, there will be a large variety of beer. At Oktoberfest in Fredericksburg, Texas, you’ll find domestic brews such as Angry Orchard Crisp Apple and Coors Lite; Texas brews such as Altstadt Alt and Shiner Bock; and an ample amount of German brews including Modelo Especial, Paulaner Oktoberfest, and Stella Artois. Trust us; there are many beers to taste than just the examples we’ve provided; we only skimmed the surface! Of course, there will be traditional German dishes served like the German Wurst Sampler, Quarkbällchen (German fried cheese balls), hot pretzels, Apple Strudel, and much more! Great, now we’re hungry.

3. Start Working Out | Oktoberfest Kraut Run

The annual Oktoberfest Kraut Run is a visitors’ favorite. Guests of all ages can enjoy this event. If you’re 17-years-old or older, sign up for the non-timed Adult race. There is also a race for visitors who are 16-years-old and younger. If your loved one is too young for this year’s Oktoberfest Kraut Run, there is a Kid’s Obstacle Course available until the race is over. All proceeds from the race benefit the local literacy programs in Fredericksburg; so, no matter how well or how poorly you run, you’re contributing to a great cause!
